Digital X-rays

X-rays are a form of radiation that pass easily through soft tissue in the body like muscles, but find it difficult to pass through harder substances like bone.

When used in a medical context, together with a detector, they can painlessly show us what's happening inside the body and help us diagnose illness and disease.

We have our own x-ray equipment which helps save us time in treating your pet. It enables us to pinpoint issues quickly, saving your pet unnecessary discomfort.

 

Ultrasonography and echocardiography

Both of our sites are equipped with ultrasound equipment.

During ultrasonography, harmless high frequency sound waves are passed through your pet and the resulting echoes picked up by a transducer and an image produced on a screen.

Ultrasonography is most commonly used to evaluate the abdomen, for example to look for abnormal fluid accumulation, changes to internal organs or to evaluate masses.

When the heart is examined using ultrasound, this is called echocardiography.

Echocardiography can be used to visualise the heart in real time and to take diagnostic measurements such as chamber size and wall thickness.

 

Blood pressure monitoring

We have blood pressure monitoring equipment at both of our sites.

We will often screen for hypertension in senior cats, especially those with renal disease, as this is a very common problem that can contribute to progression of renal disease.

Blood pressure monitoring is also very useful for keeping animals safe during anaesthesia.
